A scanner probe is a type of basic probe that was used by Starfleet ships in the late-24th century.

In 2365, the USS Enterprise-D launched a scanner probe to study the interior of a hole in space, created by Nagilum. After the probe vanished at the boundary of the phenomenon, a class-1 probe with a full sensor platform was launched. The latter probe was enveloped even faster. (TNG: "Where Silence Has Lease")
