The Saurians were a species of sentient lizards known to the Federation by the 23rd century.

A Saurian engineer as well as a second crewmember served aboard the USS Enterprise during the final stages of its refit in the early 2270s. (Star Trek: The Motion Picture)

Saurian brandy, bottled since at least 2169, was a famous beverage throughout the Federation. (TOS: "Requiem for Methuselah", "The Enemy Within")

Background

In 1980, Mego released a 3¾" Saurian action figure as part of its second series; the company inadvertently called it a Rigellian. [1]

In an article appearing in the January 2002 edition of Star Trek: The Magazine (Volume 2, Issue 9), entitled "Who is that Alien?", the following information from Robert Fletcher's original background notes added:

"These were a lizard-like people who were very intelligent and made excellent officers. They had the unusual ability to breathe several different gases, which made them useful members of landing parties. They were also very strong and had four hearts."

Sauria (Psi Serpentis) was the name of a trinary star system in the Alpha Quadrant. The primary was a Class G star. Magnitude of this star was +1, which was 100 times brighter than Sol. Both of the stellar companions were Class G stars, too. Sauria was the name of a planet in the system. too, and had, by 2378, become a member of the Federation.
