Santa Cruz was a city in California on Earth, home to a part of the University of California.
In 1967, radio reported that a demonstration of 3,000 students, apparently in protest over America's involvement in the Asian Brush Wars, had been dispersed by using tear gas. (VOY: "Future's End")
