The Great Marketplace, also known as the Sacred Marketplace, was located on Ferenginar in the capital city. It housed several important government buildings, including the Tower of Commerce. The Marketplace was central to the conduct of Ferengi business and several traditional rites, including criminal punishments. (DS9: "Prophet Motive")
Criminals and other deviants were often thrown from the spire of the Tower and landed in the Marketplace. Crowds gathered to watch the execution and placed wagers on where the victims would land. Lesser crimes were punished with public humiliation, including being hanged in the marketplace by the lobes. (DS9: "Family Business", "Bar Association")
