The SS Mariposa, UN Registry NAR-7678, was a DY-500-type colony ship launched from Earth's Baikonur Cosmodrome on November 27, 2123 on a colonization mission toward the Ficus sector. The Mariposa weighed 3000 metric tons, and was powered by a Yoyodyne pulse fusion drive capible of attaining a net delta-vee of 3.7 X 10e7 NVP.
The Mariposa was commanded by Captain Walter Granger, among his crew were First Officer Snodgrass and Chief Engineer Winrich Kolbe. The cargo manifest of the ship during its colonization mission included: 225 Yoshimitsu Computers, 5 Monitor Beacon Satellites, 700 cellular commlinks, 50 Spinning wheels, Cattle, Chickens & Pigs.
The first group of colonists were Irish settlers, who set up a low-tech colony on Bringloid V.
The second group of settlers never made it to their destination. The Mariposa crashed on a world they later called Mariposa colony, in honor of their colony ship.
