The SS Buckaroo Banzai was 22nd century BBI-993 class starship commanded by Captain John Whorfin. It was launched from Earth in 2137, destined for Planet 10 (DIM-8) in the Ficus sector. (TNG: Up the Long Ladder)

Buckaroo Banzai, BBI, John Whorfin, and Planet 10 (DIM 8) are all references to the 1984 film The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension, a frequent subject of Okudagram in-jokes. While working at 20th Century Fox in the 1980s, Denise Okuda (née Denise Tathwell) was the director of the Buckaroo Banzai Fan Club.
