Actress Rosie Malek-Yonan played Tekoa in DS9:"The Assignment".
An Assyrian, raised in Iran, Rosie aspired to compete in the 1980 Olympics in skating competitions, but was forced to leave her place in the games because the oppressive government required Christian Olympic representatives to convert to the Muslim faith, and female athletes were required to wear robes and headscarves.
Besides a career in performance and music, she is a writer, author of The Crimson Field, a chronicle of atrocities carried out against Assyrians during the era of World War I, 1914-1918.
