Rooney was a researcher with the Earth Sciences Institute and was a member of the A-6 Excavation Team in 2153.

She was among the archaeologists who discovered a crashed Borg sphere on Earth in the Arctic Circle. She discovered a second Borg drone, as well as the fact that the ship was a perfect sphere, and she found the remains of the ship's transwarp coil. She and her team were assimilated by the Borg she found frozen in the ice cap, and later destroyed by Enterprise NX-01. (ENT: "Regeneration")

In the script for "Regeneration", Rooney is described as an engineer in her thirties, during the events of the story.
Rooney was played by actress Bonita Friedericy, wife to actor John Billingsley.
