Two D'deridex class faces Galaxy class

Romulan Warbirds facing off with the Enterprise.

The Romulan military or Romulan Fleet was associated with the Romulan Star Empire. (TOS: "The Enterprise Incident")

Members of the military trained at the Imperial War College alongside members of the Tal Shiar, the separate intelligence agency of the Romulan government. (TNG: "Face Of The Enemy")

Commander Konsab, a military history instructor at the Romulan Intelligence Academy, spoke of his opinion of the difference between the Romulan military and the Tal Shiar as the main theme in his classes. He believed the necessity of military personnel to trust one another contrasted with the Tal Shiar's tendency to distrust their associates. (TNG: "Face Of The Enemy")

The term "Romulan Guard" was used in TNG: "Unification II" as the designation of Neral's old service. The episode does not make it clear whether the term applies to the entire Romulan military, a branch of it, or another service entirely.

In 2375, when Odo raised the matter of shore leave on Deep Space 9 with Senator Cretak and Colonel Kira Nerys, and the potential conflict of having so many Romulan and Klingons crews on the Promenade at the same time, the senator opted to "forgo shore leave until the Klingons depart. Our soldiers are professionals. They're here to fight, not to get drunk in Quark's." (DS9: "Inter Arma Enim Silent Leges")
