Rogerson was a commander in the US Navy serving aboard the USS Enterprise in 1986. He was a naval aviator and a recipient of several United States Navy decorations.

In 1986, he was the command duty officer in charge of the ship when Uhura and Chekov tried to drain photons from the Enterprise's reactor. After he learned about their presence, Rogerson set off an intruder alert on the ship. (Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home)
