Robert H. Goddard was a Human of the early 20th century. He was a rocketry pioneer, and, in 1926, launched the first liquid propelled rocket. His accomplishment was considered vital to the birth of the space age in 1957.

In the 24th century, the Federation honored the man by naming the starship USS Goddard and the shuttlecraft Goddard after him. (TNG: "Loud As A Whisper", "The Vengeance Factor", "The Next Phase")
