Class D planet, Emanations

A class D planet with a ring system

A ring system is comprised of rings of dust and other small particles orbiting around a planet in a flat disc-shaped region.

In 2152, the Enterprise engaged the Klingon D5 class battle cruiser IKS Bortas in the ring system of a gas giant. (ENT: "Judgment")

The planet Terralysium had a complex system of interwoven ring systems, each composed of unique radioactive particles. In 2257 the outermost ring destabilized and threatened to unleash a nuclear winter on the planet, but the debris was captured and redirected away by the USS Discovery. (DIS: "New Eden")

In 2371, the crew of the USS Voyager discovered a new element in the ring system of a class D planet in the Delta Quadrant. (VOY: "Emanations")

The rings of Ba'ku had special metaphasic properties that stopped the aging process for the inhabitants, the Ba'ku. In 2375, the Son'a, with the help of Starfleet Admiral Dougherty, attempted to collect the radiation for their own purposes, which would leave the planet uninhabitable. However, Captain Picard and the USS Enterprise-E were able to stop them before they could enact their plan. (Star Trek: Insurrection)

In 2380, the fifth moon of Mixtus III was destroyed by the USS Vancouver and USS Cerritos after its orbit became unstable, and formed a new ring system around the planet. (LD: "Cupid's Errant Arrow")
