Rigel V was the inhabited fifth planet of the Rigel planetary system. It was the homeworld of the Rigelians, a warp capable humanoid species. (ENT: "Demons", "Terra Prime") It was located in the Kandari sector, a region of space in the Alpha Quadrant. In early 2155, the Rigelians participated in talks discussing their wish to join as a possible member in the Coalition of Planets along with Humans, Tellarites, Andorians, Coridans and Vulcans. (ENT: "Demons", "Terra Prime")
The location of Rigel identified in the "The Explored Galaxy" star chart placed it between the Tholian Assembly and Romulus. Both were identified in DS9: "The Search, Part II", "Call to Arms" as being located in the Alpha Quadrant.
According to Star Trek: Star Charts (pgs. 52, 59, "United Federation of Planets I"), Rigel V, also known as Beta Rigel V was a M-class planet. The planet was a member planet of both the United Rigel Colonies and the United Federation of Planets. Rigel IV was admitted, along with the United Rigel Colonies, to the Federation in 2202. According to The Worlds of the Federation (page 36), Rigel V became a Federation member in 2184
