Richard Frank McKenzie is a set designer who worked on Star Trek V: The Final Frontier and several episodes of Star Trek: The Next Generation. Together with production designer Herman Zimmerman he created the set for the battle bridge of the USS Enterprise-D and he drew the construction plans for the full scale model of the Type 15 shuttlepod. Captain Richard McKenzie was named after him.
McKenzie's first work in the art department was the 1979 thriller The China Syndrome on which he worked with set designer William Ladd Skinner. He then worked as set designer on the comedy The Man with Bogart's Face (1980), the musical comedy Can't Stop the Music (1980, art direction by Harold Michelson), the crime thriller Body Heat (1981, with production illustrator Joseph Musso), the action drama Tank (1984), the western Silverado (1985), the drama Stand by Me (1986, starring Wil Wheaton), the comedy Jumpin' Jack Flash (1986, starring Whoopi Goldberg and Stephen Collins), the science fiction comedy Spaceballs (1987, art direction by Harold Michelson), the action film No Way Out (1987), the fantasy drama The Milagro Beanfield War (1988), the fantasy comedy Beetle Juice (1988), and the romance Chances Are (1989).
Following his work on Star Trek, McKenzie worked as set designer on the crime drama One Good Cop (1991, with production designer Sandy Veneziano), the comedy Another You (1991), the comedy Noises Off... (1992), the action drama Nowhere to Run (1993), the comedy sequel City Slickers II: The Legend of Curly's Gold (1994), and the romance Speechless (1994).
