Richard II was a play written by William Shakespeare, the first part of a tetralogy that included Henry IV, Part I, Henry IV, Part II, and Henry V.

In 2293, [[General Chang referenced the play during the Qo'noS trial of James T. Kirk and Leonard McCoy, asking Kirk "What would your favorite author say, captain? 'Let us sit upon the ground and tell sad stories of the death of kings.' " (Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country)
