Federation news service

Eager reporters at the launch of the USS Enterprise-B in 2293

A reporter was a type of journalist who found and told others about events. Most news reporters worked for a news organization, and their work could be disseminated via newspaper, television, or other media.

In 1947, a reporter initially spread word of a crashed flying saucer in Roswell, New Mexico. This reporter was eventually convinced by the United States Army to retract this initial statement and report that a weather balloon had crashed instead. In reality, this crashed object was the Ferengi shuttle Quark's Treasure, which had accidentally traveled back through time from 2372. (DS9: "Little Green Men")

Gannet Brooks, a former girlfriend of Travis Mayweather, was a reporter. (ENT: "Demons")

Many reporters covered the launch of the USS Enterprise-B. (Star Trek Generations)

Jake Sisko was a reporter for the Federation News Service who spent much time covering the Dominion War. (DS9: "Call to Arms", "Sons and Daughters", "Favor the Bold")

During a vision from the Bajoran Prophets, Benjamin Sisko as Benny Russell claimed that he was "not a reporter" when it was suggested that he write for the Amsterdam News instead of writing his fiction stories about Deep Space 9. (DS9: "Far Beyond the Stars")
