Rene Garcia is a visual effects artist who worked on Star Trek: Insurrection as part of Fulcrum Studios. He is currently working for Industrial Light & Magic on the upcoming Star Trek. He was also the sole modeler on the latter film's teaser trailer, which debuted 18 January 2008.

Garcia earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Design from the Corcoran School of Art in Washington DC in 1993. Between 1993 and 1996 he designed several CD-Rom games for Magnet Interactive Studios, including Incredible Idiots in Space and Bluestar. As part of Fulcrum Studios between 1996 and 1999 he continued designed the websites for companies such as National Lampoon and Nissan. He also worked as a modeler on the feature films Volcano (1997), Paulie (1998), and Armageddon (1998, co-written by Star Trek producer/director J.J. Abrams).

In December 1999 he signed on with Asylum Visual Effects, providing modeling effects for the 2000 feature film Gone in Sixty Seconds, Britney Spears' music video "Oops...I Did It Again", and commercials for such companies as Duracell, Budweiser, and Dr. Pepper. Between 2000 and 2005 he lent his skills to Manex Entertainment and ESC Entertainment, contributing work to the Warner Bros. films Exit Wounds, Thir13en Ghosts, Catwoman, The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions. He also contributed modeling effects to the video game Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2006 for Electronic Arts.

Garcia has been an employee at Industrial Light & Magic since September 2005. In addition to Star Trek, Garcia's film projects with ILM have included Poseidon (2006), Robert Redford's Lions for Lambs (2007), and the three-time Academy Award-nominated Transformers (2007), written by Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman.
