Rateg was a city on Romulus. Its inhabitants were known for a particular inflection in their speech, though this notion was apparently not entirely accurate.
While undercover on Romulus in 2368, Lieutenant Commander Data and Captain Jean-Luc Picard claimed to a Romulan woman that they were from some kilometers outside Rateg. The woman however did not believe them, taking them to be government agents instead. (TNG: "Unification I")
