Rata was the second officer of the Ferengi Marauder commanded by DaiMon Bok in 2364. He was involved in the plan to return the USS Stargazer to Starfleet and helped Bok in the plot to avenge the death of Bok's son who was killed in a battle with the Stargazer in 2355, commanded by Jean-Luc Picard. He helped alter the Stargazer's logs to make it appear that Picard had attacked an unarmed ship. Unknown to Rata, Bok also employed a mind-altering device to make Picard beam to his old ship and relive the battle, only this time he was attacking the USS Enterprise-D, his new command. After the plot was foiled, Rata and First Officer Kazago arrested Bok because there was no profit in revenge. (TNG: "The Battle")
