Quentin Swofford was a friend of Benjamin Sisko. Sisko had introduced Swofford to his wife.

In 2374, Captain Swofford was killed when his ship, the USS Cortez, was destroyed while on patrol near the Cardassian border. (DS9: "Far Beyond the Stars")
