A pulse gun was a hand-held weapon used by the Akritirians.
In 2373, Zio expressed his worries to Harry Kim that the Akritirians would have pulse guns when Kim and Tom Paris were attempting to find a way to escape from the Akritirian maximum security detention facility. (VOY: "The Chute")
In his joint audio commentary of ENT: "Broken Bow" with Rick Berman, Brannon Braga used the designation "pulse gun" of the Starfleet EM pistol.
