In William Shakespeare's play The Tempest, Prospero was the ousted duke of Milan and the father of Miranda, as well as a powerful magician. He lives with his daughter on an island.

Data took on the role of Prospero in a holodeck simulation of The Tempest he performed in late 2370. (TNG: "Emergence")

Patrick Stewart went on to portray Prospero twice, first in 1995 on Broadway, and then in 2006.
