Procyon (also Alpha Canis Minoris) was a star system consisting of binary companion stars, Procyon A and Procyon B, located about 11.4 light years from Sol.
Procyon was most notable for the fact that in an alternate future, the battle where the Sphere Builders were defeated was fought here in the 26th century. (ENT: "Azati Prime")
On several occasions in 2364, viewscreen readouts aboard the USS Enterprise-D showed the location of the A and B Procyon stars, in the form of a star chart from the Enterprise library computer. (TNG: "The Naked Now", "Code of Honor", "The Last Outpost", "Conspiracy")
The Procyon system
Edit
The Enterprise-D computer's star chart was a drawing by Rick Sternbach that had originally been published, years earlier, on page 77 of the non-canon reference book Spaceflight Chronology. This chart showed Earth commercial and exploration routes after the use of warp drive began. Procyon A and B were not destinations on any of the routes.
Procyon was a real system in the Canis Minor constellation. Modern scientists have determined Procyon A was a sub-giant (spectral class F5 IV-V) star, whereas Procyon B was a white dwarf that orbited it at sixteen astronomical units.
The non-canon reference work Star Trek: Star Charts (page 36) theorized that the Procyon system was the location of Andoria, and placed this system in the Beta Quadrant. According to both the Star Trek Encyclopedia and the Star Trek: Star Charts (page 37), the length of a sector was 20 light years across. This measurement would place this system in Sector 001.
