A power plant or power generation plant was a ground-based facility built to provide cheap and reliable energy to a city or even region.

Earth's power plants were based on nuclear fission up until the 22nd century, when they were replaced with more efficient fusion plants. (Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home)

The power plants on Cardassia Prime were sabotaged during the final battle of the Dominion War, playing a critical part in the battle's outcome. (DS9: "What You Leave Behind")

A planet in the Delta Quadrant had polaric ion power plants, the use of which were protested by Pe'Nar Makull and Ny Terla. (VOY: "Time and Again")

For "Time and Again", the interior of one of these power plants was designed by Rick Sternbach, in October 1994. (The Official Star Trek: Voyager Magazine issue 1, p. 68)

There were two power generation plants in Turkana City listed on the Turkana City cartographic database. (TNG: "Legacy")

In the late 2370s, the planet Quarra in the Delta Quadrant suffered from a labor shortage in its Central Power Facility due to the low level of automation in Quarren technology. As a result, the Quarren military began a secret program of commandeering passing alien starships, erasing their crews' memories, and putting them to work. (VOY: "Workforce", "Workforce, Part II")

In 2375 there was an accident at the power plant servicing for Ferenginar's main city, causing a toxic electrostatic cloud to hang over the city, rain from it disrupted communications. According to Grand Nagus Zek, the accident was caused by a greedy bastard contractor using substandard relays. (DS9: "The Dogs of War")

The name "power plant" was an early developmental name for the area that became known as engineering. It was used in that context during the early development of TOS: "The Enemy Within", in which engineering first appeared.
