In a Variety article discussing the end of Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman's writing partnership, it was revealed Orci is lobbying to make Star Trek Beyond his directorial debut. Bad Robot and Skydance Productions are supportive, but Paramount Pictures are reluctant to let him direct the film. [1]
