A polaron grid was a type of protective energy field, based on polarons.

Taresia was surrounded by a high-density polaron grid, projected by a network of artificial satellites. In 2373, the Taresians raised the grid to prevent the USS Voyager from retrieving Ensign Harry Kim, who had been infected with their retrovirus. The Voyager crew was able to modify the shields to penetrate the grid at a weak spot, allowing them to beam Kim aboard. (VOY: "Favorite Son")

Chakotay also referred to the polaron grid as a tachyon grid.

The multiphasic chamber built by the {{USS|Equinox]] crew to contain nucleogenic lifeforms contained a polaron grid and a submolecular resequencer. These modifications allowed them to convert the lifeforms' remains into a crystalline energy source for their warp drive. (VOY: "Equinox")
