The Podiceps Auritius is a whale native to Earth.
When Spock tried to match the sound of the Whale Probe to the sound of an Earth animal aboard the Klingon Bird-of-Prey HMS Bounty, a Podiceps Auritus was one of the animals shown. (Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home)
The Podiceps Auritus is actually a bird, although an image of a whale was shown instead on the Bird-of-Prey's display. It can be assumed that the computer on the HMS Bounty was incorrect.
