A pitcher plant was a type of carnivorous plant from Earth, which lures insects to it by mimicking their pheromones.
Naomi Wildman learned about pitcher plants in The Doctor's botany classes. She compared their mode of feeding to that of a bioplasmic organism the USS Voyager encountered in 2375. (VOY: "Bliss")
