A photon burst was a type of starship-mounted form of technology used by Starfleet.
In 2373, USS Voyager simulated the appearance of three stars in the night sky near Takar. Three photon bursts were initiated by the ship. (VOY: "False Profits")
In the Star Trek: Voyager - Elite Force, a photon burst is stated to be a miniature photon torpedo, incorporated in the photon burst launcher, a hand-held anti-infantry weapon.
