A phaser pulse was an application of phaser technology.
In 2375, Species 10026 developed a modulating phaser pulse capable of penetrating Borg shields, used in their battle to defend their homeworld against assimilation. However, the Borg Queen, with Seven of Nine in attendance, quickly adapted by adopting a triaxilating shield geometry. (VOY: "Dark Frontier")
