A phase-resonant pulse was a variable-frequency energy discharge capable of disabling a targeted shield generator with only one shot.
In 2370, Captain Picard, posing as a smuggler named Galen, configured the disruptors of Arctus Baran's raider to fire a phase-resonant pulse at the shield generator of a Federation outpost on Calder II, in an attempt to prevent the outpost's destruction. The plan worked and the outpost's shields were disabled, allowing the crew of the raider to beam up several archaeological artifacts without killing the Starfleet officers stationed there.
