Particle scattering field

A scattering field is an energy field capable of scattering transporter beams, making it difficult (and in some cases impossible) to use transporters. The Tamarians used this device in 2368 in the ionosphere of the planet El-Adrel IV so that Captain Jean-Luc Picard and Captain Dathon were trapped on the surface. (TNG: "Darmok")
