Papalla seed extract was a byproduct of a seed used by Neelix for an experiment of his involving orange juice.

In 2373, Neelix prepared his modified orange juice for Lieutenant Tuvok in the mess hall of the USS Voyager. Tuvok was wary of drinking it, as Neelix's culinary experiments were often unsuccessful. Neelix explained the ingredients of the juice to Tuvok and told him that it was made from enthraxic citrus peel with just a small amount of papalla seed extract. Neelix assured Tuvok that Ensign Golwat had tried it and enjoyed it, even asking for a second glass, something she didn't do often. After sampling the juice, Tuvok declared it "impressive" and Neelix began preparing a second glass. (VOY: "Flashback")
