*[[wikipedia:Orpheus | Orpheus]] is a mythical Greek figure.
The Greek mythical figure [[wikipedia:Orpheus | Orpheus]] went down to the world of the dead in order to retrieve his deceased wife Eurydice. Playing his lyre to Hades, his mournful songs initially convinced the god of the underworld to let him bring his beloved one back. However, this favor was granted only on the condition that Orpheus would walk in front of his wife all the way up to the earth and never once turn around to look at her until they were on the surface. Longing to see Eurydice once again Orpheus could not restrain himself, and as he turned to look at her, he lost her, this time forever.

Naming a mining colony for Orpheus obviously alludes to submerging below the surface of the earth in order to retrieve its treasures.

Assignment patch

The Orpheus Mining Colony was a mining complex on Luna, Earth's moon. It was established in 2090 and was still in operation in the 22nd century.

The patch that all miners wear, and the insignia of the station has a latin saying on it "sine qua non", which literaly means "without which not", that translated into something essential or cannot live without.

History

The colony was established by Paxton's father in 2090, where he built it from the ground up. The colony could not use artificial gravity because it would be impractical, so miners and employees were to required to take injections of Myofibrilin. (ENT: "Demons")
