Doctor Phlox exposes himself to omicron radiation

Omicron radiation (or omicron particle) is an energetic release of particles which, in high enough levels, could be extremely dangerous to humanoid life.

The warp core of the Vissian starship which the Enterprise NX-01 encountered in 2153 produced omicron radiation. This necessitated an inoculation be given to Commander Tucker to permit him to visit the Vissian's engineering section. When Tucker asked Doctor Phlox how long the inoculation would last, Phlox responded that it should protect him from omicron radiation for "about twelve years." (ENT: "Cogenitor")

When Doctor Phlox was infected with Borg nanoprobes, he exposed himself to a high level of omicron radiation in order to destroy them, a process which caused him a great amount of discomfort. (ENT: "Regeneration")

When attempting to discover a way to disable the organic power cells in Xindi-Reptilian particle rifles, Tucker and Phlox began bombarding them with different forms of radiation, and discovered that omicron radiation caused them to reproduce at an accelerated rate. (ENT: "The Shipment")

Omicron particles can be used to facilitate the production of antimatter; the USS Voyager attempted to recover omicron particles from a nebula to supplement its antimatter fuel reserves in 2371. (VOY: "The Cloud") Commander Chakotay was once shot down while surveying a planet with omicron particles in its atmosphere. (VOY: "Nemesis")

A Q-created Chokuzan starship's weapon caused one of the consoles on the Delta Flyer to send Icheb into shock. The Doctor later diagnosed his condition as omicron radiation necrotizing his cells. (VOY: "Q2")

Yaderan holotechnology releases omicron particles. Jadzia Dax indicated they were extremely rare. (DS9: "Shadowplay")
