Omekla III was the inhabited third planet in the Omekla system. This was a Cardassian planet and the location of a shipyard.
In 2371, Thomas Riker set course for the shipyards at Omekla III after he destroyed Cardassian Outpost 47 with the stolen USS Defiant.
Riker's strategy changed after the ship was damaged by Major Kira Nerys, and the Defiant was forced to take cover in a nebula while undergoing repairs. Following the completion of repairs, the Orias system became the ship's new target. (DS9: "Defiant")
According to the script, the pronunciation for Omekla was "OH-mek-la". [1]
According to the Star Trek: Star Charts, on page 46, the Omekla system consisted of a Class M star. Magnitude of this star was +3, which was 10 times brighter than Sol. This system was located in the Alpha Quadrant.
