A nutrient broth is simply a soup-like mix of ingredients. Most broths which are ingested by humanoids consist of various types of vegetables and/or some form of protein, in the form of meat, or re-sequenced protein. Doctor Phlox once referred to his osmotic eel as needing a nutrient broth every three to four days. (ENT: "Marauders")
- Though it is doubtful it would require all the vegetables common to humanoid soups, it is reasonable to assume the term refers to a concoction of amino acids, proteins, and carbohydrates, in a more basic form, similar to the electrolytes present in humanoid life, as Phlox also refers to his eel as being able to ingest blood.
