Nuclear vibration is a side effect of folded-space transport as described by the Elway Theorem.

In 2366, the crew of the USS Enterprise-D speculated that the nuclear vibration detected on Rutia IV after a terrorist attack could be indicative of a subspace transition rebound during transport. The observed nuclear vibrations later turned out to be identical to those postulated by the Elway Theorem implying a case of inter-dimensional travel. With this knowledge, the crew developed a method whereby an adaptive subspace echogram could be used to track movements of the Ansata terrorists. (TNG: "The High Ground")
