Sisko outlines operation return — Sisko shows his proposed fleet deployment for the Ninth Fleet

The Ninth Fleet was one of several Federation Alliance Fleets involved in the Dominion War.

In mid-2374, elements of the Ninth Fleet, as well as elements of Second and Fifth Fleets, were proposed to be used in the effort to retake Deep Space 9. The Ninth Fleet was, however, a day behind the other two fleets and not able to arrive at Starbase 375 in time to depart with the task force. (DS9: "Favor the Bold")

By Stardate 51247.5, Deep Space 9 was designated as headquarters to the Ninth Fleet and General Martok was made its Supreme Commander. At that time vessels assigned to the Ninth Fleet included the USS Akagi, USS Exeter, USS Potemkin, USS Sutherland and IKS Rotarran. (DS9: "You Are Cordially Invited")

Later that year, the Ninth Fleet, including the USS Defiant and several runabouts, were off conducting war exercises. (DS9: "Change of Heart")

In mid-2375, Martok announced a plan to lead an attack on the Trelka V starbase, as well as several other large targets located deep in Cardassian territory. Benjamin Sisko, who was concerned with the number of resources it would take for such a large campaign, noted that it would take half the Ninth Fleet alone just to destroy the base. Martok then clarified that he intended to conduct cavalry raid-type attack on his targets in attempt to create chaos and throw the Dominion off balance.

Among the ships from the Ninth Fleet involved in Martok's raid were the IKS Ch'Tang, IKS Orantho, IKS Ning'tao, IKS Malpara, and IKS Slivin. (DS9: "Once More Unto the Breach")
