Orbited by at least two moons, Nimbus III was the third planet in the Nimbus planetary system. This planet, located in the Neutral Zone, was in the Alpha Quadrant. The atmosphere was capable of supporting humanoid life-forms. According to an advertisement, the planet was ...famous for its wildlife and the fishing is terrific. Individuals who wished to move this planet could finance their trip through Federation Federal.

Nimbus III was established as a "Planet of Galactic Peace" in 2267 after the Federation-Klingon War.

The Federation and the Klingon and Romulan Empires agreed to mutually develop the planet, perhaps in the hopes of serving as a model for a new age of peace and understanding. However, the planet proved to be an inhospitable rock, and the colonists chosen for the undertaking were among the most unscrupulous individuals in the galaxy, quickly taking to fighting amongst each other, fashioning their own crude projectile weapons when the planetary government forbade them from any weapons at all. In 2287, the Vulcan Sybok took over the planet's capital and only settlement, Paradise City, to attract a starship to take him to Sha Ka Ree. (Star Trek V: The Final Frontier)

Background

In the script for TNG: "Family", the hologram of Jack Crusher stated that one of Wesley's ancestors was a horse thief on Nimbus III.

The star chart seen in "Generations" depicted the location of planets, stars, and star systems in the Alpha Quadrant. Based on the dimensions of the circles used to mark locations on the star chart seen in "Generations", this system was located relatively near to the USS Enterprise-D.

Star Trek: Star Charts

The Nimbus system was located in or near the Romulan Neutral Zone, in the Beta Quadrant. This system was in close proximity to Earth Outpost Stations 9 and 10. This was a single star system. Primary was a Class F star with a magnitude of +5, which was the same brightness as Sol. (pg. 66)
