Depending on the usage of some terms, slang words can often be used as nicknames, which can be derived by several different means, including the shortening of ones name, or the creation of a new named based on the person or objects unusual job, talents, quirks, traits or personality.

Many of the following nicknames are examples of the more unusual nicknames, such as those that go beyond the typically 'understood' ones, such as "Ben is short for Benjamin", etc.
