Nicholas Nickleby is a novel written by Charles Dickens during Earth's 19th century. Among the characters in the novel was Smike, the handicapped friend of the main character.

Udar was given the nickname of "Smike" by his fellow Augments because he lacked their genetically enhanced abilities. (ENT: "Cold Station 12")
