This state was bordered by Canada to the north and west, Pennsylvania and New Jersey to the south, and Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Vermont to the east. The cities of Albany, Camden City, Cooperstown, Garden City, Northport, and New York City were located in this state. Long Island was, as well, located in this state. The two-letter code for this state was NY.

In the mid-20th century, Amazing Detective Stories was published in this state, in New York City and Garden City. One of the stories, The Big Good-Bye, a Dixon Hill story, was based in New York City. (TNG: "The Big Goodbye")
