- For the starship class, please see New Orleans-class.
New Orleans was a major port city on the Gulf coast in the state of Louisiana, United States of America. The city was famous for its French Quarter that contained, among other attractions, Jackson Square and Audubon Park. The New Orleans-class of starship was named after this city in the 24th century. (TOS: "The Cage", TNG: "Brothers", DS9: "The Visitor", "Homefront")
In the mid-20th century, people, even those in rural areas, could hear about what was happening in this city on the radio. Though people might feel they were far from events, radio brought them in closer. (TNG: "The Big Goodbye")
The city was the birthplace of various members of the Sisko family, including Benjamin Sisko (in 2332), and was the location of Sisko's, Joseph Sisko's creole restaurant. (DS9: "Equilibrium", "Homefront", "Paradise Lost", "Image in the Sand")
