A neuro-cortical stimulator was a brain implant that stimulated higher brain function by storing synaptic patterns, processing them, and transmitting neural-electrical impulses to the rest of the brain.
The Vidiian Denara Pel had a neuro-cortical stimulator implanted in her parietal lobe. In 2372, The Doctor transferred the synaptic patterns stored in the implant to the holobuffer in an attempt to rescue her. (VOY: "Lifesigns")
