NBCUniversal is a private corporation formed in 2011 by the joining of interests of two public corporations, Comcast (the majority owner) and General Electric (GE, the minority owner). It is the successor company to NBC Universal (originally written with a space), formed in May 2004 and principally owned by GE.

Among the present corporation's many divisions are Universal Studios, Universal Networks (which includes Syfy), G4, and the NBC Television Network. NBC was the first network to air Star Trek in 1966.
