A mouse is a small rodent. It can be found on a variety of worlds. Cars are traditionally known to chase mice, which has lent itself to the phrase "cat-and-mouse game" when one individual or group persistently chases another.
An input device on computers of the 20th and 21st centuries was also known as a mouse because of its "tail", which connected it to the computer. Montgomery Scott mistook the device for a microphone when he accidentally travelled back in time to 1986. (Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home)
As of 2370, Data's cat Spot had never encountered a mouse or other form of rodentia. (TNG: "Phantasms")
Later that year, Odo snuck aboard a Kressari freighter and disguised himself as a mouse to investigate allegations by one of Quark's contacts that the Kressari were arming the Bajoran extremist group known as "The Circle". (DS9: "The Circle")
