"Moon River" was one of the many Frank Sinatra songs in Vic Fontaine's repertoire. Vic's accompanying trio played the song in Vic's nightclub even in his absence. (DS9: "It's Only a Paper Moon")

With words and music by Johnny Mercer and Henry Mancini, "Moon River" was the theme song to the hit 1961 movie Breakfast at Tiffany's. The song won two Academy Awards for Best Original Score and Best Original Song in 1962 as sung by Audrey Hepburn who also won Best Actress in a Leading Role. Recorded in 1962 by Andy Williams, it became a #1 hit. Sinatra recorded it in 1964.
According to the Star Trek Encyclopedia (4th ed., vol. 2, p. 52), this song was a telling of dreams of hope and romance.

Lyrics[]

Moon river wider than a mile
I'm crossing you in style someday
You dream maker, you heartbreaker
Wherever you're going I'm going your way
Two drifters off to see the world
There's such a lot of world to see
We're after the same rainbows end
Waiting round the band
My huckleberry friend, moon river
And me
