In The Big Good-Bye, Russell Hastings gave instructions to his manservant, Simpson, to pay the bills and proceed forthwith to Montreal. While in Montreal, Simpson would wait for his master to wire him in coded language. The message would contain further instructions. (TNG: "The Big Goodbye")
