Miral

Miral in B'Elanna's vision.

Miral was the Klingon mother of B'Elanna Torres and former wife of John Torres. Miral and John separated when B'Elanna was about five. The break-up was due to Miral's strict Klingon beliefs, which also caused a rift between her and B'Elanna. B'Elanna blamed her mother for the broken marriage and never forgave her for it. The last time she contacted her mother, she was living on Qo'noS.

Miral died in 2376, dishonored by her daughter's rejection of the Klingon traditions. When B'Elanna lapsed into a coma after her shuttle was hit by an ion storm, she found herself on the Barge of the Dead on her way to Gre'thor. During the trip another dishonored soul appeared to her: her mother, Miral. When B'Elanna awoke, she was determined to save her mother. She convinced Kathryn Janeway to let the the Doctor put her back into a near death coma.

B'Elanna arrived again on the Barge and tried to preform a ritual that would send Miral to Sto-Vo-Kor. It failed and B'Elanna realized that the only way to save Miral was to die for her and take her place in Gre'thor. She did this and Miral ascended to Sto-Vo-Kor, as B'Elanna was led into Gre'thor.

Miral then appeared to her B'Elanna again, telling her that she could be saved if B'Elanna lived with honor. Just then, the Doctor woke B'Elanna her from her coma. Before being revived, however, Miral told B'Elanna that, despite evidently joining Sto-Vo-Kor, she may see her when she returned home to the Alpha Quadrant. (VOY: "Barge of the Dead")

In 2378, Miral would have her first granddaughter, Miral Paris, named in her honor. (VOY: "Endgame")

Miral was played by Karen Austin.
It's unclear whether Miral is still alive or not. John Torres referred to her in the past tense in "Author, Author", suggesting she may have died by that point, however in the non-canon Voyager Relaunch series of novels, B'Elanna returns to the Klingon colony of Boreth and finds her mother alive, though by the end of the novel she is dead.
